After Christ completed His work on earth, we see a new command for all those who put their faith in Christ. The call was to “believe and be baptized.” The belief was in the salvation given through Christ Jesus and the desire to be a part of His covenant community. Baptism was now the sign of citizenship into that community. At the same time, circumcision was no longer commanded and was deemed as unnecessary (Acts 15).
